The Company and the Role:

Wessex Cancer Trust is a medium-sized charity which offers support to people affected by cancer, their families and friends. The charity operates in Hampshire, IOW, Dorset and Wiltshire and runs 4 drop-in support centres and a range of outreach projects in hospitals and in the community. The charity is driven to evolve and grow in response to the needs of their service users. The challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic have proved how well they can achieve this.
Their new CEO joined in July 2020 and as they head towards their 40th birthday this year they are now planning how to use the knowledge and experience they have gained during COVID, to reach more people in more ways.
The Trust relies on voluntary income to fund its work, raising money through fundraising activities and via a trading subsidiary of charity shops. In 2019 it had a combined turnover of £1.9m.
The successful candidate will be part of a small and motivated team of around 14 people based at their Head Office, and a wider workforce of 50 – 60 people.
They are now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Part Time Finance Assistant. The position is for 22.5 hours per week
You will report into the Finance Manager. Good financial management is critical to the
Charity’s success, and the Finance Assistant is a linchpin in the organisation, ensuring
efficient processing of their income and expenditure. They know that the year ahead will be unusual as the country comes out of Covid and settles back to a level of normality, so they
are looking for a Finance Assistant who is not easily fazed, who is diligent with bags of
initiative and is warm and enthusiastic.

Key Features of the Role:

• Ensure all purchase invoices are valid and authorised, record all purchase invoices and bank payments promptly on Sage ensuring correct allocation to department and Charitable Fund.
• Pay purchase invoices within agreed time scales.
• Ensure receipts are received for all transactions paid via Credit Card and processed on Sage.
• Extract income data from Salesforce database into Sage, amend data to allocate income to correct Charitable Fund.
• Raise annual sales invoices for charitable services and chase payments.
• Extract records for retail sales from Azurri till system and download to Sage ensuring correct allocation of department.
• Reconcile all bank accounts weekly, Reconcile inter-company accounts and prepare monthly lottery returns.
• Ensure all petty cash reports are received by first working day of month and processed on Sage. Process and reconcile reports with Sage. Liaise with sites if any discrepancies.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
• You should be an experienced Finance Assistant with a good working knowledge of using financial systems, preferably Sage 50 (or eagerness to learn and become expert).
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Experience of working in a customer focused environment, with a focus on providing excellent customer service
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal with people at all levels, in person, by phone and by letter / email.
• Demonstrable initiative and determination.
• Ability to work alone and as part of a small team.
• Excellent computer skills: confident using Microsoft Office, email, internet etc.
• Ability to prioritise and organise workloads
