Salary:                        £35,000 to £40,000 DOE
Location:                    Dudley, West Midlands

Position:                     Permanent

A requirement for a Health & Safety Officer / Manager who will ensure the company complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.  The Health & Safety Officer / Manager will Coach and influence plant leadership and employees to implement and support a healthy, safe and sustainable business. 

The Health & Safety Officer / Manager must hold a NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent qualification and hold an Environmental Management Certification (IEMA etc).

The role of Health & Safety Officer / Manager has a salary between £35,000 to £40,000 for the right candidate.

Main Duties & Accountabilities (Health & Safety):

Responsibilities include but are not limited:

  • Support a safe working environment, considering Company procedures and current legislation
  • Advise plant leadership on any Health, Safety and Environmental Legislative changes and subsequent implications, updating procedures where necessary.
  • Advise plant leadership of Group and Divisional HSE standards, initiatives and requirements, review implications and ensure update of processes, procedures or work instructions as appropriate
  • Maintain adherence to international HSE standards (ISO 14001:2015, OSHAS 18001/ISO45001 & ISO450001).
  • Report on all monthly HSE performance KPI’s and ensure reporting is completed on time in line with Plant, Divisional and Global requirements. Assist and advise the business on meeting HSE objectives
  • Develop and implement behavioral safety programmes to create a culture change at operational and leadership levels within the organisation.
  • Management of Group and Divisional projects across the facility.
  • Ensure completion of all HSE business Risk Assessments and develop risk reduction programs as necessary. Utilise ERM process and appropriate follow up action
  • Perform risk profiling (Zurich Hazard analysis) and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken
  • Liaise with external authorities as required
  • Manage auditing of plants HSE systems and processes
  • Investigate and report on all serious HSE incidents on site and evaluate accident statistics and provide recommendation for continuous improvement
  • Identify knowledge gaps and ensure provision of health, safety and environmental training to employees, including induction for new employees and continued training for new employees
  • Asses and manage site key HSE related risk with the long term objective to eliminate hazards

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Environmental Management certification (IEMA etc)

Experience

Essential:

  • Site HSE management experience
  • Experience leading a team
  • Experience with ISO 14001, OHAS 18001/ISO45001 and ISO 50001
  • Knowledge of safety behavioral programmes
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Experience in managing environmental permits
  • Decision making skills
  • Risk assessment experience (ERM, ZHA, etc)
  • Project Management Skills
  • Experience in working with external agencies such as HSE, Environmental agency and Local authorities
  • Able to motivate and achieve through others
  • Ability to influence site Leadership team and drive positive cultural change
  • Assertive, ability to positively influence challenging conversations
  • Cultural match to the Leadership Behaviors
  • Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and direct site leadership team

Desirable:

  • Formal Lean or CI training
  • Auditing experience
