HQ5605 HGV Fitter

Forces Recruitment Services are currently recruiting for a HGV Fitter to work within a workshop facility to carry out repairs and maintenance on a fleet of vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment.
Applications from ex-military personnel (British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Marines) are strongly encouraged, however all application will be considered
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs to vehicles, plant and equipment, as directed.
- Maintain vehicles to the standard required by DVSA, so as to achieve maximum vehicle availability.
- Carry out necessary diagnostic work and specialist repairs where possible.
- Attend roadside breakdowns and recover vehicles, if repairs are not possible.
- Ensure that all necessary information is recorded and completed for each task.
- Ensure that the workshop is kept clean and tidy.
- Order parts and equipment from suppliers as and when required
- Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements relevant to your working environment including workshop inspections.
- You may, on occasions, be required to work overtime to ensure that sufficient vehicles are available to meet the needs of the end users.
- Supervise and support our apprentices to achieve their goals and outcomes.
Person Specification:
- Good, reliable timekeeper

- Flexible attitude to work
- Good interpersonal skills
- Awareness of exceptional customer care
- MOT testing experience would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic control systems would be an advantage
- Experience in welding and cutting techniques would be an advantage
Essential:
- Full Driving Licence with a valid HGV class C entitlement
- Time served / NVQ Level 3 qualified or equivalent in repair and maintenance of HGV’s
- Good standard of English and Maths
- Good all round knowledge of Planned/Unplanned maintenance procedures relating to both heavy and light goods vehicles (Preferably municipal Vehicles)
- Able to cope in a physically demanding role
- Be willing to attend any courses as required.
Desirable:
- VOSA Approved MOT Tester
- Experience of maintenance & repair of Ground Maintenance equipment
- Experience of maintaining refuse collection vehicles
- Experience of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical municipal vehicle systems
- Experience of using diagnostic equipment
- Experience of maintaining refuse collection vehicles
