Description :

A long-standing fabrication/construction company is looking for a highly motivated Operations Manager to oversee the production, transport and yard supervisors of the business. The Operations Manager ideally will have relevant management qualifications, be adaptable to a fluid working environment and have a firm but fair attitude towards the workforce; a pro-active approach to the job is a must. Our client prides itself on using commercially-managed and sustainable resources to produce top-range products for the public and private sectors. This is an excellent opportunity for an Operations Manager to apply a ‘can do attitude’ and their experience towards the success and growth of the company.

Applications from ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this role and are strongly encouraged.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee and assist the production, transport and yard managers in their daily operations, acting as a liaison to senior management and board of directors to keep them up to date with shop floor matters.
  • Providing a leadership support function to departments and motivating staff to achieve agreed upon production goals and targets.
  • Ensuring that communication between departments is on-going and utilised to maintain an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Support the company in production planning by making sure the business is adequately resourced and staying within a managed budget.
  • Identifying any skills gaps in the organisation and undertaking a recruitment programme to support the hiring and induction of key personnel.
  • Training of staff and managers in new policies and procedures to ensure that everyone is performing adequately in their role, including annual performance reviews of direct reports and ensuring the roll out of this throughout departments.
  • Liaise with Health & Safety Consultant and ensure compliance both in the factory and the yard.

             

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Management: prior experience in a managerial role essential. Applicants must show a strong, pro-active leadership style with an angle towards being tough, but fair.
  • Good communication up and down the chain of command is essential.
  • Team work: fostering an environment where departments work together to achieve their production goals.
  • Initiative: the ability to take charge and tackle problems head on until completion is important
  • Planning: ensuring that plans for the future are clearly laid out for everyone to follow. This includes keeping IT systems and the company’s procedures are up to date, ensuring people are trained to meet the challenge.
  • Desirable: previous experience in the fabrication or construction sector

Qualifications

  • Desirable: working towards NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Health and Safety Leadership Excellence
  • Desirable: accredited Business Management degree

Salary:             £30,000 - £35,000 per annum DOE  

Benefits:           Training opportunities provided. Possible bonuses (depending on reaching yearly targets, medical insurance for senior staff (after probationary period), 20 days holiday + bank holidays

Contract:          Permanent role – 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday)

Hours:              8:15am – 5:15pm

Training opportunities with product and skills will be available subject to your previous experience.
