The Company and the Role:

Wessex Cancer Trust is a medium-sized charity which offers support to people affected by cancer, their families and friends. The charity operates in Hampshire, IOW, Dorset and Wiltshire and runs 4 drop-in support centres and a range of outreach projects in hospitals and in the community. The charity is driven to evolve and grow in response to the needs of their service users. The challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic have proved how well they can achieve this.
Their new CEO joined in July 2020 and as they head towards their 40th birthday in 2021, they are now planning how to use the knowledge and experience they have gained during COVID, to reach more people in more ways.
The Trust relies on voluntary income to fund its work, raising money through fundraising activities and via a trading subsidiary of charity shops. In 2019 it had a combined turnover of £1.9m.
The successful candidate will be part of a small and motivated team of around 14 people based at their Head Office, and a wider workforce of 50 - 60 people.
They are now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Trust and Major Donor Fundraiser to join Wessex Cancer Trust`s fundraising team to maximise income through a range of trust and donor fundraising activities and the development and delivery of new initiatives.
You will report into the Head of Fundraising and Communications and be expected to raise money from charitable trusts, major donors and other grant making bodies through effective research and targeting, and the preparation of high quality and compelling applications. In addition, you will be responsible for oversight and co-ordination of applications made by other fundraising colleagues to ensure no duplication and that quality standards are met.

Key Features of the Role:

• Secure multi-year and one-off grants from charitable trusts and other grant making bodies undertaking and overseeing research to build a pipeline of funding opportunities with clear deadlines, gaining an understanding of funders` needs.
• Develop and maintain an excellent knowledge of the Charity`s services and build strong internal relationships with colleagues delivering services; to research, design, and write detailed applications to grant-making bodies.
• Write targeted, compelling and engaging proposals tailored to specific trusts, or other grant making bodies, and ensure they are delivered on time according to application deadlines.

• Identify key decision makers and manage relationships with donors and grant makers, involving the CEO and Board when necessary.
• Develop a major donor programme with a view to securing multi-year and one-off grants
• Identify potential major donors and undertake and oversee research to understand their interests.
• Maintain a pipeline of prospective major donors, and develop and to involve potential donors, supported by the Board, the CEO and other colleagues.
• Develop tailored, compelling and engaging proposals and ensure any `ask` is made in the most appropriate way for the donor, involving the Board, CEO and other colleagues as necessary.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
• Be an accomplished Trust and / or Major Donor Fundraiser with experience within the charity sector.
• Experience of working to, monitoring and achieving income targets.
• Demonstrable ability to plan and prioritise your own workload with minimal supervision
• Able to demonstrate good relationship management, well-honed administrative and pc skills
• Excellent presentation and communication skills (Verbal, written and listening), able to deliver compelling presentations and engage with a wide range of audiences confidently
• Knowledge and understanding of the impact of a cancer diagnosis on families.
• A full UK Drivers Licence and a reliable vehicle

With the impact of Covid, this next year will be crucial for Wessex Cancer Trust. This is a key new role within the charity, working with Trusts and Major Donors within the Wessex region and supporting the Head of Fundraising and Communications to ensure that they can continue to support thousands of people affected by cancer.
They offer a competitive salary of around £26,000 - £28,000 with contributory pension scheme, 25 days holiday, a friendly open plan office with free parking. 37.5 hours per week but some evening and weekend work will be required which may require travel.
