A public transport company are seeking individuals that are seeking a new career within the transport industry to become a Bus Driver in the Greater London area. The Trainee Bus Driver is to undertake apprentice training and PCV driving duties in a safe and professional manner, and in accordance with all the applicable legal and company requirements, whilst maintaining a professional image and the highest standards of customer care at all times. You do not need previous experience within the industry and will be provided full training to become a fully qualified PCV licence holder.
Applications from suitably experienced ex-military personnel (British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy or Royal Marines) are strongly encouraged.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake bus driving duties as detailed by daily roster or alteration sheet in a safe and professional manner
- Operate in accordance with the Driver’s duty card and code of conduct
- Ensure that all equipment is kept and returned to the Company in good condition. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, any vehicles used or driven, modules, emergency ticket packs and accident cameras.
- Maintain a smart and tidy appearance at all times whilst on duty and to promote high standards of customer care at all times whilst on duty and training
- Promote the good name of the Company to all our customers (including Transport for London, London Buses, passengers and intending passengers, and any other relevant parties as may be necessary).
- Pick up and set down customers at bus stops with due care for their safety as they board and alight the bus. To set all destination and numeral blinds to ensure that the information displayed is correct and legible.
- Examine all passes presented for travel. To be familiar with and to comply with the relevant procedures for ticket issuing and recording passenger journeys.
- Have a duty of care for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues at all times, including a duty to report unsafe acts or omissions to safety. You should always follow all safety instructions in respect of how you undertake your role within the Business.
- Having a good working knowledge of the UK Domestic Drivers’ Hours’ Regulations
- Ensuring First Use Check quality is maintained and acting on any issues found.
- Ensure that any equipment issued to you or used by you in the course of carrying out your duties is not mistreated or abused in any way.
- Ensure that all equipment is kept and returned to the Company in good condition. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, any vehicles used or driven, modules, emergency ticket packs and accident cameras.
- Undertake refresher training on an identified training needs basis and / or in accordance with development reviews.
- Reporting or acting on any depot safety issues found.
- Ensuring full compliance to Health, Safety & Environment policies.
- Any other duties commensurate with the role
Person Specification:
- Hold a current, full manual UK driving licence
- Have one year’s minimum driving experience in the UK
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be flexible in terms of working hours; we operate shifts, working any 5 days out of 7, over a minimum 38 hour working week
