The Company and the Role:
The owner of a Private Residence in West Berkshire is currently seeking a full-time professional couple as, primarily, a chauffeur and handyperson plus the possibility of the partner undertaking the role of part time Housekeeper who would undertake basic household duties whilst working with the family. This is a permanent role and the position comes with a delightful 4 bedroom cottage, near to the main house.
Reporting directly to the owners, you will be responsible, primarily, as a chauffeur and handyperson. The role is wide ranging and they are looking for someone who is flexible, in their approach to work, as well as competent and able to take on DIY tasks, including gardening, car cleaning duties and receiving deliveries etc.
The position requires trust and compatibility, in order to complement the family, with increased dedication whilst they are in residence and calmer times whilst they are away. You will be expected to fit in your holidays around the family’s, so that you are in situ whilst they are at home. There will be some weekend work of differing requirements particularly during the shooting season. When the owners are away, the delightful and undemanding Spaniel with remain loyally at your side – with meagre attention required, usually in the form of ‘feed me!’ and ‘brush me !’.
For any additional hours worked, time will be given off in lieu and on some occasions, overtime may be payable.
The owners are also very keen on country pursuits, for example shooting, so you must be like-minded and able to gain a shotgun certificate so that you are able to transport the guns and load.
Your partner may be required to work part time hours, carrying out basic household duties such as cleaning, dusting etc for which they will be paid separately. Both partners will need to consider that they will be working, with each other, on site.
Key Features of the Role:
You will be expected to carry out chauffeur, handyperson and DIY duties as part of your day to day role.
You will look after the family and the property when they are in or out of residence, carrying out general maintenance and other duties.
You will be expected to monitor the CCTV security system as part of your responsibilities.
You will look after the family dog whilst the family is away. Your partner may be requested to carry out basic household duties as and when and required.
You will need to feel comfortable around shotguns and other country pursuits as the family host shooting parties and other such events.
Knowledge and Skills:
Practised chauffeur and capable handyperson who has had the experience of and the willingness to undertake basic DIY tasks and gardening duties.
You will need to be a proficient and considerate driver. Experience of driving a 4 x 4 vehicle will be beneficial along with a clean driving licence.
Whilst this role is supportive of ex-military personnel, it needs to be stressed that this position does not have a close protection element. Only minor security responsibilities, such as CCTV and locking up in respect of the security of the estate.
You will need first-rate organisation and planning skills and a sound inter-personal ability, as well as diplomatic charm, be responsible, honest and trustworthy whilst able to use your own initiative.
Above all, you will need to be charismatic in your approach to work in what you do and when you do it.
You must be able to gain a shotgun certificate.
What’s on Offer:
Basic salary of around £30k will be dependant on your skill set and experience.
20 days holidays plus bank and public holidays, pension scheme, healthcare etc.
Working full time hours are flexible, with the focus of work intensifying whilst the family are in residence.
Live in accommodation, in the form of a 4 bedroom cottage, located on the estate. The accommodation is provided free, however, the you will be expected to pay the council tax and the running costs of that property e.g. gas, electricity, water rates etc.
If you have a partner, there may well be the possibility of your partner also being offered some form of part time employment, undertaking household duties.
Involvement in country pursuits, such as shooting etc.
