Description :
A Maintenance Technician is needed to assist with the day-to-day delivery of an efficient and effective, proactive and reactive maintenance service for an established leading constituent college of the University of London. The Maintenance Technician is hands-on and requires previous experience with ideally a level 3 NVQ background within building maintenance. You must have a UK manual driving licence and have excellent people and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day contact and liaison with a wide range of internal and external personnel including colleagues in the Estates Department, academics, contractors and suppliers
- Undertake multi-disciplined maintenance duties, both planned and reactive, to a high standard using appropriate tools, equipment and machinery
- Advise on the procurement of spares and materials
- Participate in the ‘out of hours’ maintenance rota in order that an effective emergency maintenance service can be maintained outside of normal working hours
- Provide cover for absent colleagues as required
- Ensure that all working practices are carried out to Health and Safety Regulations and that appropriate risk assessments are undertaken before any maintenance work is commenced
- Be responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of areas such as plant rooms and workshops
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to the delivery of the work within the Department.
- Undertake training as required or directed to allow safe working practices and enhancement of personal skills
- The Maintenance Technician may be required to work at other campuses
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Hold a recognised qualification/apprenticeship to at least NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a building services mechanically related discipline
- Previous experience of building maintenance in either of these areas:
- Domestic/commercial buildings fabric maintenance
- Industrial / domestic electrical/mechanical equipment (boilers, chillers etc.)
- HVAC systems
- Proven IT skills including MS Office and computerised
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, written and verbal skills
- Reliability, adaptability and diplomacy
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Good knowledge of health and safety
- Ability to travel between campuses
- Full UK manual driving licence
- Willingness to undertake training as identified by line manager
- Able to participate in an out of hours rota and outside normal working hours (evenings & weekends)
Desirable:
- Knowledge of appropriate health and safety legislation including risk assessments and COSHH regulations
- Experience of working in both public and residential properties
- Knowledge of computerised building maintenance systems
- Experience of working in an educational environment and/or where there are animals present

Salary:
£26,000 - £29,600 (Depending on exp.) + London Weighting, overtime and call-outs
