The Company and the Role:
The Company is a material handling equipment company whose operations cover an area which can best be described as Central Southern England.
They sell, hire and maintain new and used engine and electric powered forklifts and warehouse equipment as well as telescopic handlers and high-level access equipment and supply every conceivable type of business from Warehouse and Distribution to Manufacturers and Service businesses.
They are currently seeking an Engineering and Service Manager. The position is permanent and the ideal location for the Candidate is on the Hampshire South Coast.
As the technical \"Figurehead\" in the business, you will be expected to engender the highest possible standards of workmanship, professional competence and customer service within a sound commercial structure throughout all engineering functions of the business.
You will also foster good communication and relationships between the various business departments, with particular attention towards the Customer Support and Parts operations.
You will be primarily office based, but able to provide field support when appropriate.
Key Features of the Role:
Take full responsibility for the overall day to day management of the engineering operations.
Oversee the good day to day management of the workshop resources. Ensure that the workshop maintains necessary standards and consistently delivers on time and within budget.
Monitor and analyse Field Service Engineer workload and customer allocation, working closely with the Technical Support Manager.
Represent to senior management and colleagues the best interests of all Engineers, balancing this against the needs of the customer and the Company
Take overall responsibility for recruitment within the Engineering Department.
As the nominated Occupational Health and Safety Management Representative, take responsibility for the management of all Health & Safety matters and ensure that the company operates within the guideline set down in the QMSEMS.
Together with the Operations Director, take responsibility for all aspects of asset management, to include the control of all costs, ongoing maintenance programmes and the ultimate realisation of residual values.
Liaise as appropriate with all Key Suppliers and Sub-contractors ensuring best value, delivery of service and standards in line with our own. Establish service level agreements where defined minimum standards must be met.
Provide additional support, practical advice and expertise to the Technical Support Manager or Customer Support Manager in the resolution of Customer Complaints or in Customer relationship issues which have an engineering component.
Oversee the commercial aspects of service and maintenance programmes, including taking a proactive interest in the control of all engineering related costs, pre and post sale.
Provide assistance and guidance where required on the costing of individual jobs and / or liaise with the client on high value jobs to ensure that the business is concluded successfully and to the satisfaction of all parties.
With assistance from the Customer Support department, monitor vehicle off the Road situations (VOR) and take any necessary action to minimise the time such machines are out of action.
Knowledge and Skills:
You will be an accomplished Engineering Service Manager with a broad engineering background ideally supported by some engineering qualifications.
Whilst experience of the MHE and ancillary equipment sector is desirable our client places considerable importance on the effective management of its staff. Therefore, you should have excellent interpersonal, man management and communication skills supported by first class organisational and planning skills.
You must have a thorough understanding of IT/computing technologies.
You must be knowledgeable and a competent user of current day office automation packages.
You should have a Full UK drivers Licence.
