HGV Fitters are needed to join a major supplier to the UK construction industry. The client provides a broad range of services: skip hire, waste management, aggregates, concrete supply, earthworks, asbestos management and demolition. An HGV Fitter will be doing minor and major servicing, MOTs, inspections and breakdown repairs on their fleet of 450 vehicles (mixers, tippers, skips, artics, waste and Hiabs). HGV Fitters will have minimum 3-years’ experience in the servicing of HGVs and possess sound knowledge of all HGV mechanical functions. There are various shift patterns available, but a full time HGV Fitter at £42,000 pa will have a 50 hour work week with 1-4 hours on alternating Saturdays. This is an excellent opportunity to work for an expanding service leader who feels their people are their greatest asset.
Applications from ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this role and are strongly encouraged.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintenance and servicing of fleet a fleet of HGVs
- MOT preparation on vehicles
- Inspection of fleet every 6 weeks to ensure consistent smooth running and minimise downtime.
- To follow correct Health and Safety procedures at all times
- To ensure vehicle breakdowns and repairs are dealt with in line with company procedures
- To ensure appropriate paperwork is completed
Key Skills and Experience
Required
- Experience in the servicing of HGVs and possess sound knowledge of all HGV mechanical functions
- Ability diagnose/fault finding problems effectively
- Work to MOT standards at all times
- Experience in maintaining vehicles including PMI inspections
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role
Desirable
- HGV Class 1 License (C+E) desirable but not essential
- Candidates with supervisory experience advantageous
Salary: £32,000 - £42,000 per annum
Holiday: 20 days + 8 bank holidays
Hours: 50 hours per week full time, with alternating Saturdays for (1-4 hours). Other shift patterns available
