Location:  Home Based covering Scotland and south of the border

Working Hours: 39 hours per week + overtime as required

The Field Service Engineer, ideally from an ex-military background or military leavers, will be responsible for preventative maintenance, breakdown, troubleshooting, repair, installation and commissioning of a wide range of centrifugal pump systems, and must be prepared to travel extensively to work at customer sites, both regionally and nationally.

Due to the nature of the role, the Field Service Engineer must expect to spend nights away from home, with the expectation of an average of 5-10 nights away per month (company credit card provided). The work is scheduled within the area covered by the Field Service Engineer, however from time to time, out-of-hours and weekend working will be required as travelling into other regions may be required.

Workshop activities will also form part of the role and include activities such as equipment dismantling, inspection, reporting and assembly of both clients` and non-clients` products.

Our client`s equipment is used in fire protection, but the engineer might also work on clean water and dirty water (sewage) installations from time to time.

Applications from ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this role and are strongly encouraged.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Servicing of Electric and Diesel Driven pumping equipment and systems;
  • Servicing, installation and commissioning of centrifugal pumps;
  • Fault-finding on electrical control panels;
  • Interpret maintenance manuals, drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repair equipment, using specialist knowledge and standard test instruments and tools;
  • Consult with the company`s engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance;
  • Dismantle rotating equipment to component level;
  • Identification of components;
  • Compile detailed inspection reports on equipment dismantled;
  • Assemble equipment using engineering drawings or your experience/knowledge;
  • Present a professional image, support and promote the company`s values at all times;
  • Alignment and installation of rotating machinery;
  • Meet with customers;
  • Supervise or direct tradesman or contractors in these tasks;
  • Train customers and other engineers on the equipment;
  • Operate systems to demonstrate equipment and to analyse malfunctions;
  • Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements;
  • Ensure equipment, local conditions and operating procedures are safe for all parties;
  • Carry out all work practices in line with the Company Health and Safety Policy;
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures in particular regarding accreditation and calibration of tools and equipment;
  • Meet high standard of cleanliness and housekeeping, including care of company vehicle;
  • Completion of work task within the allotted timescales.

Person specification:

  • Able to react to customer facing situations professionally;
  • Route planning and prioritising work tasks;
  • Able to communicate with the Coordination team by the use of verbal and handheld devices (phone/tablet) and the company`s own operating system (ServiceMAX);
  • Able to write concise and relevant customer and site visit reports.

Knowledge, skills and qualifications required:

Essential:

  • Relevant qualification to NVQ Level 3 or 4 (A-level to HNC or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience which must be at least 5 years as a Pump Field Service Engineer
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
  • Knowledge of Steam Turbines would be a distinct asset
  • People skills, teamwork and collaboration

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Desirable:

  • Current electrical qualifications (17th Edition / City & Guilds 2391-10 or 2394/2395)
  • Previous Field Service Engineer experience
  • Fork lift truck license
  • LOLER trained or similar (overhead crane)
  • Site Safe
