Description :

Our client is seeking additional Support Workers to join and strengthen their expanding team in providing all service users with the highest standards of care and support.  Ensuring service users are treated with respect, dignity and in a way that enables and promotes their independence as individuals. The Support Worker will help to ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to and requirements of the Care Quality Commission are met.  Support workers will also be responsible for ensuring service users` needs are met through ad-hoc shift leading and mentoring less experienced employees through on-the-job training.

Principle duties and responsibilities

  • Support individual service user needs in accordance with the Person Centered Plan (PCP).
  • Diagnose seizures and support service users during a seizure, administering emergency medication if needed.
  • Under the guidance of the medical team support service users to attend medical appointments and provide a comprehensive feedback to the service manager in order to support the service users` ongoing medical needs.
  • Contribute to the prevention and management of challenging behaviours following behavioural management guidelines.
  • Support quality assurance activities of services as required.
  • Promote service users` rights to confidentiality of information in accordance with the guidelines of company policy and data protection laws.
  • Responsible for administering daily medication and carrying out activities in line with medication training requirements.
  • Assist with aspects of personal and intimate care as required for each service user which may include:
    • Bathing, showering, drying and shaving
    • Dressing and undressing
    • Hair / Nail and foot care
    • Assisting to eat
    • Domestic and clinical waste disposal
    • Dental hygiene
    • Toileting / Catheters
    • Stomas / PEG Feeds
  • To undertake domestic duties as and when required, as part of providing daily living skills/maintaining a home life environment for the service users which may include:
    • Menu planning / cooking
    • Laundry / ironing
    • Shopping
    • Tidying / mopping
    • Vacuuming / cleaning
    • Polishing
  • Support service users with physical disabilities using trained techniques and aids e.g. hoists, wheelchairs, modified bathing equipment.
  • Attend and participate in service user activities e.g. holidays/trips, participate in swimming sessions and other activities as per each service user`s PCP.
  • Acting as a company representative at all times when liaising with external stakeholders including medical professionals, care managers, families, advocates, therapists, prospective service users etc.
  • Be assigned to service users as a key worker.
  • Responsible for ensuring individual service user documentation is accurate and up-to-date at all times.
  • Observe and operate at all times in accordance with the Company`s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a flexible approach in relation to the working pattern to ensure the smooth operation of the service including working across sites, additional hours, weekends and public holidays.
  • Assist in shift leading and ensuring the service has the required level of resources to support the service users` needs.
  • Responsible for mentoring less experienced support workers.
  • Responsible for attending and completing all mandatory training.
  • May be required to lone work at times and undertake any other duties appropriate and as reasonably required to meet the changing needs of the service.

Person Specification:

  • Numeracy and literacy level 1
  • Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual.
  • Self-confidence and ability to manage challenging situations.
  • IT literate.
  • Strong organisational, time management, planning and communication skills.
  • Flexible, professional and positive approach to multi-site working.
  • Proven reliability in terms of full attendance and timekeeping.
  • Driving license preferable but not essenti
