Description :

To support the Property Director by providing advice and guidance on all aspects of Health & Safety and Building Compliance across the UK Property Portfolio.  This post requires significant travel and will necessitate overnight stays away from home. The post holder must be able to work on their own initiative as well as being part of a team.  Working within the ethos of the organization is essential.

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position.

Responsibilities:

General.

  • Promote, develop and establish a positive safety culture at all levels of the organization to meet legal requirements in terms of Health, Safety and Compliance.
  • Responsibility for both Strategic and Operational matters relating to Health & Safety and Buildings Compliance Planning and Management.
  • Provide competent support to General Managers and Maintenance Staff at all locations within the Organization.

Major Duties.

  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant health & safety and buildings compliance legislation and best practice.
  • Lead in creating and maintaining a climate in which individuals feel safety has high value and that they are clear about responsibilities, safety aims and objectives within the organization.
  • Provide assistance and advice to General Managers on all aspects of Health & Safety and Buildings Compliance within their Houses.
  • Provide advice and support to all staff on Health & Safety and Buildings Compliance matters.
  • Provide updates on a monthly basis on all new or amended Health and Safety legislation associated with facilities related issues to all Directors, Regional Team members and General Managers.
  • Liaise closely with the Property Director on significant risks that affect the wider organization.
  • Establish, audit, monitor and maintain arrangements and guidance to ensure compliance with the legal requirements under the Construction Design and Management Regulations, including contractors.
  • Formulate and conduct a programme of monitoring and audit of all Health & Safety and Buildings Compliance obligations at all properties, providing associated compliance reports.
  • Prepare insurance assessments and claims when required.

Person Specification:

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • A thorough knowledge of Health & Safety and Building Compliance Legislation.
  • Thorough knowledge of general Facilities Management activities.
  • Proven experience as Health & Safety manager or other similar managerial role.
  • Experience in planning Health & Safety and Buildings Compliance activities including audits, training, reporting and remedial actions
  • Ability to travel across the UK, with periods of working away from home.
  • Hold a Full UK driving licence
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels
  • Strong organizational, supervisory and leadership abilities
  • Satisfactory DBS Check
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent IT Skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
