For individuals with acceptable and checkable commercial, Police or military close protection training completed before 1st January 2002 that have subsequently been in continuous CP employment. The SIA specify a minimum of 24 guided learning hours leading to formal assessment of CP knowledge and skills, including a written examination as in Option 1. This is a very intensive 3-day non-residential course with long hours in a classroom setting. Those that fail the examination will be required to attend a full 4-week approved course (less medical if appropriate).

Those with acceptable and checkable training must present sufficient evidence of prior learning and experience, with enough information on content to carryout a mapping exercise against the SIA Close Protection Specification for Training & Qualifications. An appeal system is in operation for those who dispute decisions on accreditation for prior learning.
