Description :

A leading and rapidly expanding technology based company requires a Data Centre Technician to join their successful company. The successful candidate will have proven experience in a similar role, including diagnosing, repairing and solving Hardware, Software and Network related issues. The Data Centre Technician will provide Remote, Smart Hands and 1st Line IT support to clients. They will preferably hold a qualification in IT, fibre optic or network cable installation and valid SC clearance will be advantageous.  To be successful you must have confidence in your ability and take pride in your work. Key Responsibilities:

  • Onsite technical assistance and troubleshooting. Answering support queries via phone and email.
  • Monitoring network & software status using digital monitoring software.
  • Provide Data Centre ‘Rack and Stack’ services - commission and decommission servers, install and build new servers, with associated cabling.
  • Provide first line support for IT queries across the business, analysing and fixing issues where appropriate or escalating when required.
  • Provide friendly, professional and effective technical support to our sites across the UK.
  • To work as part of an extended customer support team including colleagues on the support desk and in other functions.
  • To systematically troubleshoot, resolve, log and follow up on customer support cases.
  • Ladder racking, pre-wiring of patch panels and equipment.
  • Installation and termination of cables.
  • Understand the use of, cable and fibre test equipment, produce and analyse test documentation, and prepare reports.
  • Providing visual verifications to assist in remote troubleshooting.
  • Inventorying/labelling of equipment.
  • Power cycling of routers, servers and switches and soft-booting servers.
  • Diagnosing and rectifying technical problems and queries following first line fix criteria and where possible resolving at first call.

Person Specification:

  • Ability to work as part of a team or unsupervised.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experienced Required:

  • Clean, current driving licence.
  • Must meet SC and BPSS security clearance vetting and approval requirements.
  • Ideally previous experience in a similar role, including diagnosing, repairing and solving Hardware, Software, Laptop, Desktop, Mobile Device & Network related issues.
  • Logical in your approach to troubleshooting, problem solving and fault diagnosis.
  • A BSc Degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent HND/GNVQ or IT qualifications in CompTIA A+ and/or CompTIA IT Fundamentals or Microsoft qualification (Desirable).
  • Technical knowledge in any of the following: Microsoft Server and Microsoft Office (Desirable).
  • Installation and termination of cables, construction of ODF/IDF’s, trunking, termination shelves, and other associated activities. (Desirable).
