BS5091: Engineering Technician, Network

A successful engineering & manufacturing services company, supplying products and services to the Defence, Aerospace and Homeland Security market sectors, is now looking for an experienced Engineering Technician, Network to join its Engineering Services team. Reporting to the Engineering Support manager, the Engineering Technician, Network will be the subject matter expert on all IT and Network related projects and tasks. The Engineering Technician, Network will also support the design, configuration, installation and updating of Network hardware and software and the provision of any necessary supporting documentation.
This role would suit ex-military candidates and applications from ex-service personnel are strongly encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
- The provision of IT and network technical solutions and support to the projects
- Continuous improvement of network engineering, maintaining a leading edge capability
- Leading the planning, delivery and assurance of customer and in-house work packages
- Oversight, direction and guidance to the project, through planning and delivery of installation tasks
- The provision of essential Project documents and internal Work Instructions
- The provision of technical input into bid preparation and contracts
- The development and implementation of policies, standards and procedures
- Customer liaison on all relevant risks and issues
- The exploitation of opportunities for further business development
- Remaining available, on occasion, for the provision of an on-call, out of hours support for urgent operational requirements
Key Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 3 years, relevant experience of live networking systems
- Network Design experience
- Understanding of WIFI
- Working knowledge of VPNs
- Solid understanding of ITIL practices
- Strong communication and organisational skills and suitable for customer facing tasks
- The ability to work unsupervised, demonstrate initiative, and be comfortable in a team environment
- The ability to provide in-house training to other Company staff
- CCNA/CWNA/CCNP network engineering with relevant Defence sector experience
- Knowledge of MS Server infrastructure / Exchange / Windows Server 2012/2016
- Knowledge of Linux architecture and commands
- Leadership and management experience desirable
- An in-date passport and clean category B driving licence
- All candidates must be in a position to obtain UK security clearance to SC level. Additional restrictions may apply on certain defence programmes
