Description :

This exceptional position is for an energetic, personable and enterprising live-in couple to run a prestigious shooting lodge in the idyllic Yorkshire Dales. Outside the shooting season, you will also be responsible for managing a small B&B and holiday accommodation business. The role requires a full-time housekeeper/cook and a part-time property maintenance person. A rent-free 2-3 bedroomed cottage is provided, as well as a car for business use. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly professional and friendly team, who provide some of the best shooting sport and accommodation in the country.

Applications from ex-military personnel (British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Marines) are strongly encouraged.

Key Responsibilities:

Shooting season

  • Hands-on, day-to-day management of the Shooting Lodge and attached Cottage
  • Preparing and serving meals (Sunday/Monday/Tuesday) during the grouse season - Aug to late Nov
  • Preparing and serving meals (10 single days) during the pheasant season - early Nov to end of Jan
  • Maintaining the properties’ grounds, gardens and car
  • Management of part time staff

Outside the shooting season

  • Managing and promoting the Shooting Lodge as a 5-bedroom B&B
  • Managing the Cottage as a self-catering holiday cottage
  • Handling an efficient on-line and telephone booking system, including liaison with agencies
  • Interacting with guests to promote business and encourage repeat visits

In quiet periods, the couple may be asked to assist with other general Estate tasks

Person Specification:

  • Catering ability, including preparing and serving good home-cooking
  • Organisational and practical skills
  • Capable of managing a small part-time team of housekeeping and waiting staff
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Cheerful and engaging to make guests feel welcome
  • Appreciative of the countryside and of countryside pursuits
  • Computing and financially literate to manage household and business accounts
  • Full driving licence essential due to the rural location

Benefits:

20 working days holiday per annum, plus statuary bank holidays (or time off in lieu of these)

2/3 bedroom cottage is provided rent free including Council Tax
