BS4918: Manufacturing Process Engineer

The world’s largest manufacturer of high-technology cables and systems for energy and telecommunications is now looking for an experienced Manufacturing Process Engineer, who can understand, analyse, review, and implement improvements, to join its Operations team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Process Engineer will provide technical expertise to support the manufacture of optical fibre cables and associated connectivity products. As well as ensuring the area has the capability to continuously produce product to design specifications, the ManufacturingProcess Engineer will have energy and passion to work within multidisciplinary teams that bring new products to market.
Key Responsibilities
Identify material and labour efficiency cost savings.
Utilising Lean/Six Sigma tools to continuously improve production.
Interpret design specifications and write clear process instructions.
Supervise process developments of cable and blown fibre products.
Technically approve introduction of new materials.
Commission new equipment and manufacturing lines.
Support daily operations, including fault finding.
Manage preventative maintenance inspections.
Develop tooling and equipment supply chain.
Produce CAD drawings to communicate to external resources and subcontractors.
Complete monthly reports and monitor relevant key performance indicators (KPIs).
Establish and maintain technical and training documentation.
Key Qualifications and Experience
Educated to HNC or above in an Engineering/Technical discipline.
Previous experience within a Process Engineering role in a manufacturing environment
Have previous experience in a continuous improvement environment.
Working knowledge of OEE, Kaizen, 5S, SPC, SMED.
Be proficient with all aspects of Microsoft Office, and show experience with SAP
Ideally experienced with polymer extrusion and/or optical fibre.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Good interpersonal skills, communication, and presentation capability.
Appreciative of audits, health and safety, environment and COSHH.
Autonomous; have the ability to work with minimum supervision.
Be self-confident, the ability to lead and co-ordinate cross functional teams.
Hands on approach
Previous experience of writing technical reports to be presented to an external customer/client
