The Company and the Role:
The Company has been established for 30 years and is one of the UK`s leading distributors of two-way radio communications equipment for world leading manufacturers such as Motorola.
Their industry is undergoing a dramatic and exciting step change with the introduction of digital technologies. This step change has promoted rapid growth in the Company`s business as existing analogue users migrate to new digital technologies.
To ensure their continued success, and to stay ahead of the competition, they are looking to appoint a highly-motivated Field Maintenance and Installation Technician who understands the fundamentals of two-way radio communications and IT networks. The position is based out of their site in North Yorkshire. The position is permanent.
Key Features of the Role:
You will be able to programme, install, maintain and fault find the key components of two-way radio systems that frequently include equipment such as two-way radio repeater base stations, fixed mobiles, hand portables and their associated accessories as well as RF multiplexing and antenna equipment, IT media converters, firewalls, switches and routers, and AC/DC power systems.
You will be familiar with using communications analysers and related RF test equipment proficiently.
You will advise customers regarding the proper use of equipment and address specific user issues and take ownership of technical issues, and working with external suppliers, manufacturers and software development groups to resolve more advanced issues when necessary.
You will carry out area and site surveys to identify RF/IT equipment location and antenna orientation and provide appropriate RF/IT network design, planning and optimisation.
You will submit technical reports to support Sales Account Managers to produce client facing documentation during the lifecycle of the tender or quotation with relevant systems and product information and undertake client demonstrations of system capabilities.
Knowledge and Skills:
You will be an accomplished Telecommunications Engineer with significant experience of installing, testing, and commissioning two-way radio equipment, core IT networking and basic electronics and providing follow-on maintenance support.
You must have a minimum HNC/HND (or equivalent) qualification in a related communications or IT discipline.
You will be proficient in the use of communications analysers and related RF test equipment.
You should have experience in identifying the elements and interconnectivity of a basic network, defining the OSI and TCP/IP Reference Models, defining the advantages of different Network Layout Options, listing the Physical and Data-link Layers of the OSI and TCP/IP Reference Models.
Product knowledge with two-way radio equipment from Motorola, Hytera, Simoco, Tait, Kenwood and Icom is desirable.
What`s on Offer:
Basic salary is £25-30k for Monday to Friday 08.30 - 17.15 Monday to Friday. 24 hour standby required on a rotational basis. In addition, there is 25 days` holiday plus bank and public holidays, pension, bonus scheme, company van, uniform (and PPE), tools, laptop and mobile.
