Description: |
Our client is part of a US-based group of companies providing insurance and reinsurance for a diverse range of clients worldwide. The company offers a broad selection of property, casualty, accident & health, financial products and risk management services to many corporate and consumer clients.
As a result of progression within the company, a Transportation Risk Manager is required.
Based in the company's Birmingham office, it is not essential you have prior experience of the insurance industry as that will be taught if necessary. It is essential you have experience of working in a commercial environment as Freight Forwarder, Shipping Agent, International Transport Company, with a shipping line or Marine Surveying Company or as an Adjuster.
The role is part office based, part field based with some European travel expected. Knowledge of a South European language would be helpful in dealing with specific clients in this region but not essential. It is considered more important that the successful applicant is capable of communicating clearly, both within the company and externally to clients.
Individuals who have used an ex-military marine background in a commercial environment are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Transportation Risk Manager will be expected to:
i)work with global and domestic clients and their brokers on Cargo Risk Management programs; ii) Manage survey programs on Project Cargo and DSU polices; iii)Assist in coordinating Risk Management Support to smaller clients in Europe; iv)Assist in coordinating Risk Management Support to new clients outside of Europe; v)Research Commodity Date and oversee updating of the company's Marine Intranet system; vi)Assist in developing Risk Management marketing material; vii)Provide Desk Top Ship Vetting Reviews; viii)Liaise with law enforcement agencies to compile Cargo Theft Data and analyse results; ix)Represent the company as a speaker at industry conferences.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to possessing knowledge of the above, it is essential the Transportation Risk Manager:
i)is fluent in speaking and writing English (with a second Southern European language preferred); ii)has professional or academic qualifications in Freight Forwarding, Shipping, Transport, International Trade or Risk Assessment; iii)has worked in a commercial environment as a Freight Forwarder, Ships Agent, International Transport agent, Marine Surveyor or Loss Adjuster; iv)is fully computer literate; v)has a full UK driving licence; vi)is able to interface with other Marine Teams across Europe; vii)is able to work on their own initiative with minimal supervision.
This position would ideally suit someone with an armed forces - particularly a marine - background. Applications from ex-military candidates are strongly encouraged. |
