Our Client and the Role:
Founded in 1957, our client has over 50 years of experience developing and operating customized supply chain and associated service solutions in demanding environments.
Supported by a world-wide network of resources including state – of – the – art warehousing facilities, bulk fuel installations and real time freight tracking capabilities, our client provides workable resolutions to complex client requirements in the areas of food logistics, catering, retail, aviation, transport and warehousing, camp services and fuel management.
Our Client is the US Division of this expanding Group and operates a commercial bakery in Kabul, Afghanistan supplying restaurants and military kitchens of countries who are participating in ISAF, the multi-national peacekeeping force in Afghanistan.
They are currently seeking a Bakery Manufacturing Manager for the bakery in Kabul.
Reporting into the Bakery General Manager, the successful candidate will lead the bakery production team and will measure the overall performance so the bakery can
produce baked products at a quality that is above the end customers standards with
optimal efficiency.
You will manage the manufacture / packing and dispatch departments and will provide effective leadership and direction to your staff, managing a multi cultural workforce where English is often a second or third language. You will ensure your staff follow the core principle - 100% quality 100% of the time.
You will measure SOH for all raw materials and will maintain acceptable levels of the following operational KPIs which include: Through put rates, Operations Waste, Production Output in kg’s, Production Output in Units, Production Output in Cases (boxes), Measure Output against Total Head Count, Head Count less Leave and Actual Labour hours.
You will maintain product quality reports and will ensure the bakery operation conforms to all Health and Safety regulations.
Finally you will be an active member of the Bakery Management Team and will enforce our clients corporate policies.
Knowledge and Skills:
You should be an energetic and accomplished English speaking Bakery Production Manager.
You should be highly self motivated with the ability to communicate and motivate a varied team. Your experience should be supported by vocational bakery qualifications and preferably a food safety qualification.
Experience of working in a retail bakery operation, in a military environment or for a leading international facilities management provider would be ideal, as would experience of working in post conflict areas, remote sites or in other arduous environments.
You will have an excellent understanding of commercial bakery production operations and specifically a high degree of knowledge on food hygiene including HACCP, food handling and food presentation concepts.
You should have a proven track record in driving GMP and HACCP within a food manufacturing environment or similarly audited quality control program such as ISO standards.
Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English and one other language and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines. Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be IT / PC literate. Experience with Zapata software or similar is highly desirable.
This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished bakery production professional looking for something different.
The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is an annual bonus payable after 12 month’s service which is also paid in US Dollars and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. Accommodation, laundry, local transport, medical / health insurance, permanent disability and death benefit, bereavement leave and meals are all provided free. In addition you will have the use of a phone to call family and friends and also use of the internet for e-mails etc.
Ex-Patriate employees will receive 63 days annual leave per year and the working rota is approximately 14 weeks on, 3.5 weeks off.
In addition Ex-Patriate employees will receive 3 paid return economy flights per year. Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
