The qualification aims to enable candidates to further develop their
understanding of payroll procedures in a computerised environment;
understand the importance of accuracy and security in performing any payroll task; develop their understanding of payroll procedures in a computerised environment; develop the skills to perform routine and some non-routine payroll tasks using Spreadsheets and commercial payroll software and to enhance the candidates general knowledge of the IT environment and specifically in relation to the use of spreadsheets and payroll software.

Objective

Upon the completion of study for this unit, it is intended that the candidate will be able to:

• Use spreadsheets to make basic payroll calculations
• Set up key parameters, codes and details in payroll software
• Enter Gross Pay
• Enter details relating to additions and deductions
• Amend settings and details
• Process details of those starting or leaving employment
• Perform weekly/ monthly routines
• Understand confidentiality, security and other statutory responsibilities
• Make further changes to system settings.
• Make complex gross pay calculations
• Make complex adjustments for expenses and benefits
• Make complex adjustments for additions and deductions
• Make key changes during the year
• Produce key period and data printouts and reconciliations
• Produce management information
